On June 23rd, One Direction performed in Washington D.C. apart of their ‘Take Me Home’ tour. I’ve added high quality images to the gallery of Louis. You can also view some videos from the performance below.
One Direction’s ‘Take Me Home’ tour has officially begun! The band kicked off their tour at the O2 Arena in London, England last night. I’ve uploaded a few images to the gallery of Louis.
Boy band phenomenon One Direction performed two sell-out shows in one day at London’s O2 Arena as they launched their world tour on 23 February.
The five-strong group belted out hits from both of their albums, including Up All Night and One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks) to more than 20,000 screaming fans on the first date of their 117-date Take Me Home tour.
After the show, band member Niall Horan Tweeted: “I love you guys so much! Luckiest dudes on the planet!”
“We just played two sold out shows at the O2 Arena today! You guys are incredible!”
In 2012, One Direction went from virtual unknowns in the United States to undoubtedly one of the biggest acts in music, and it doesn’t look like they will be slowing down in the new year.
Following the success of their smash album Take Me Home, the British/Irish boy band will spend the better part of next year working on their 3-D movie, which Simon Cowell said will not only be “about the fans,” but will also follow their massive 2013 world tour, which kicks off in February at London’s O2 arena.
They have their first-ever headlining tour for Up All Night under their belts, but this time around, the boys promise it will be bigger and better.
“With the last tour, we didn’t expect it to be as big as it was,” Harry Styles said. “We never expected to do that many dates. I think we did 92 shows, and this time we are kind of preparing it for bigger arenas so we can make the stage a bit bigger. The whole show is bigger, and we’re doing, like, 101 dates on the next one, so it’s going to be a long one.”
One Direction did admit that they’ve already picked out their opening act but wouldn’t disclose the lucky artist. However, they did reveal who is on their dream list of tourmates.
“Celine Dion!” Liam Payne said of who he would want to tour with before rattling off the names of Bruno Mars, Pink and Kanye West.
Zayn Malik admitted that going on tour with Katy Perry “would be amazing,” but hip-hop mogul Jay-Z tops his list.
“Imagine going on tour with Jay-Z,” Malik asked the group.
“Lads, I don’t think there’s much chance,” Louis Tomlinson admitted.
And while they might not get to go on tour with Jay, they are keeping their hopes up for a possible collaboration.
“I would love to do a hip-hop collaboration with Jay-Z,” Payne said. “I don’t know how to talk to him, though. I think he’s wicked. I love Jay-Z. It upsets me that we’re not cool enough, but I wish we could.”
Not so fast: It seems Liam already made the first move. Payne snapped a photo of himself with Jay at the Brooklyn, New York, stop of Justin Bieber’s Believe Tour, after tweeting, “Alssoooo my biggest news todayy i met one of my idols and couldnt even look him in the eye…”
Wonder if he asked him about that collaboration? Fingers crossed, Directioners.
One Direction wrapped their first headline tour of the U.S. last night with a show in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan have spent much of 2012 here in the U.S. and Canada promoting their debut album Up All Night, and launched their first headlining tour in May after opening up for Big Time Rush on their Better With U Tour in February and March.
Joined by fellow UK superstar Olly Murs, who described the journey as “superb,” last night’s show not only wrapped up their U.S. tour but also completed the last leg of the Up All Night Tour. The boys enjoyed their final show with band member Niall Horan tweeting, “Wow ft,lauderdale! Great way to finish our 1st headline US tour! #upallnight tour is done! Long 6 months but amazing! Thank you all so much.”
But with the first headlining tour complete, what’s next for the chart-topping boyband? As reported earlier, the boys are working on their second album which they hope to have out by Christmas. And they hope to have the first single from that album out as soon as September. “We’ve got to make a decision for a single soon,” Niall Horan tells MTV News. “Because we have to get a single out towards September… We want to have the most control that we possibly can of everything that we do.”
The boys also have a few more shows to prepare for, the 2012 Olympics closing ceremonies, a sold out show at Madison Square Garden in New York City in December and then their 2013 World Tour which kicks off in London in February and stops by Pepsi Center in Denver in July 2013.
When you go see One Direction, it’s not so much a concert as it is an event.
Scores of girls, ranging from the half-pint variety to those old enough to drive a car, make signs, paint their shirts and profess their love for the five boy-band members from England and Scotland.
They scream. They cry. Then they scream some more.
And that’s before the band topping the charts nowadays with hits such as “One Thing” and “What Makes You Beautiful” even takes the stage.
When Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson do finally appear in front of the packed house, it’s a 90-minute swoon session where nobody sits down and nearly everyone belts out every word of every song.
Such was the case Friday night at the 1-800-Ask-Gary Amphitheatre, as One Direction brought its great looks and good songs to Tampa as part of its “Up All Night” tour. Some adults stuck with their kids or even grandkids as chaperones brought earplugs to combat the deafening sound of nearly 20,000 pairs of lungs screaming at full volume.
The band, which finished in third place on Simon Cowell’s “The X Factor,” bopped and hopped through the songs of its debut album, with offerings such as “Stand Up,” “I Wish,” “Gotta Be You” and “More Than This.”
They dabbled in songs from others, taking a stab at “Stereo Hearts” by the Gym Class Heroes, “Torn” by Natalie Imbruglia and “Use Somebody” by the Kings of Leon.
Every song the band sang, the crowd adored. They could have done the “Hokey Pokey” and girls would have fainted.
As singers, they sound pretty good. As under-21 hotties, they look darn good – if you’re a young girl who likes that sort of thing, and many do.
They dress nicely; their clothes aren’t falling off their bodies in some type of wardrobe malfunction. You don’t have to worry about obscenities being belted out on stage. Only a couple have visible tattoos.
Band members seem like they like each other. And they certainly like the reaction they get from the screaming hordes.
They do a solo, girls scream. They answer Twitter questions during the concert, girls scream. Heck, they could even roll around on stage and girls would scream.
Oh wait, that did happen.
The band from across the pond stirs flashbacks to those who coiffed their hair and bounced around on stage decades before them: the Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, ‘N Sync.
With this sort of fan dedication, this boy band for 2012 has just one direction it can go – up.
